The FTC says it’s okay for telemarketers, debt collectors, and others to use robocalls or texts—even if you don’t have an established business relationship with them. The only way for them not to contact you again is by asking them not to. When you get such a call, ask whether you’re on their do-not-call list and, if so, tell them you want to be removed. (You can get help removing your number at dontcall.gov.) If they say they aren’t calling on behalf of an established business relationship, ask them not to call again.
