firefox announces move to block cryptomining scripts

Firefox, the popular Web browser, will soon begin automatically blocking crypto mining malware scripts as part of a wider performance-enhancing push.
The Mozilla Foundation, the not-for-profit organization behind the open-source browser, said Thursday that it intends to block trackers and other “harmful practices” in upcoming releases.
Some of these features, such as the anti-tracking function, are already available in its Firefox Nightly beta version.
The goal is to prevent third-party scripts from hampering the user experience, according to Mozilla vice president of product Nick Nguyen. These scripts are generally embedded within websites and can commandeer a user’s computing power without their knowledge.
Scripts that hijack an individual’s unused computer power to mine cryptocurrencies also fall into this category.
“Deceptive practices that invisibly collect identifiable user information or degrade user experience are becoming more common,” Nguyen wrote, adding:
“For example, some trackers fingerprint users — a technique that allows them to invisibly identify users by their device properties, and which users are unable to control. Other sites have deployed cryptomining scripts that silently mine cryptocurrencies on the user’s device. Practices like these make the web a more hostile place to be. Future versions of Firefox will block these practices by default.”
The Firefox Nightly version will be used to test the functionality of the new features. And if successful, users may begin seeing them enabled by default in the Firefox 63 release.
Mozilla joins other browser developers, including Opera and Google, in trying to protect its users from malicious miners, which can slow down the user experience at best and damage their computers at worst.

Opera announced in January that it was rolling out miner protection to the smartphone version of its browser, which would also be active by default. The company already offered cryptominer protection on its desktop version.
Google, meanwhile, has banned any cryptomining apps from its Play Store, though it has not made any official statements regarding automatically blocking scripts embedded within websites.

Seven years old boy recovering from hurt dogs attacked

Update: 7-year-old boy savaged by a pack of dogs recovering in ICU

A seven-year-old boy is recovering from an unprovoked attack on Sunday by four stray dogs in the Ban Tha Noon area of Phang Nga’s Takua Thung district, Thailand.

“Nong D-Max” Chairap, has regained consciousness.

Many state officials, including Phuket deputy governor Prakob Wingmaneerung, Phuket Red Cross Society deputy head Rattiya Wongmaneerung and Takua Thung district chief Bancha Thanu-in, have also visited the boy’s family to give them moral support.

Acting hospital director Dr Weerasak Lorthongkham assigned three teams (paediatrics, general surgery and skin graft team) to treat him.
As the boy was apparently traumatised, a psychiatrist will later join in to assess his mental health, she said adding that the priority as of now was in treating the wounds and vital signa.

The boy’s aunt Preeda Maimad, 39, said she and two children used wooden sticks to fight off the four strays that were mauling Yeunyong but not before he had sustained about 100 deep bite wounds.

Yeunyong “Nong D-Max” Chairap,  who is being treated at Phuket’s Vachira Phuket Hospital’s intensive care unit, has a normal blood pressure but still requires constant medical surveillance to prevent possible infection.

The boy had emergency surgery on Sunday night for in-depth assessment of the deep wounds he suffered all over his body, including his face, arms and legs, said paediatrician Dr Natthawan Thepnarong

Update: 7-year-old boy savaged by a pack of dogs recovering in ICU

The boy’s mother Lampaen Taemsi, 43, said the four stay dogs – one of which was reportedly once a pet dog but it became so fierce that its owner let it go – often roamed the seaside area in the back of her home and attacked chicken or a piglet and even once was hostile towards her children.

Lampaen has filed a complaint with the Khok Loy police and urged the authorities to help her son.

The four dogs in question were captured and locked up in a quarantine cage for seven-day observation, while tests are carried out to establish if they have rabies.

4 Men Arrested For Hacking Into A Bank Application, Stealing 466 Million In 2hour

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Kaduna Zonal Office on January 16, 2019 arraigned Bashir Abdullahi Mohammed, Oche Ogenyi, Adefila Taofile Kayode, Rabiu Aliko Lawal and Mmadu Mathew before justice Mohammed Tukur of a Kaduna State High Court, on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing to the tune of N466, 000, 000 (Four Hundred and Sixty Six Million Naira) only.

They were arrested following a petition by Polaris Bank, alleging that they hacked into the bank’s application, and fraudulently increased the N781,000 in one of the customer’s bank account to N466 million.

One of the counts reads: “That you Bashir Abdullahi Mohammed, Oche Ogenyi, Adefila Taofile Kayode, Rabiu Aliko Lawal, Mmadu Mathew Onyekachi, and others now at large, sometime in 2018 in Kaduna within the judicial Division of the High Court, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit theft of the sum of N466 million and you thereby committed an offence contrary to 58(1) of the Penal Code Law Kaduna State 2017 and punishable under Section 59(1) of the same Law”.

They pleaded “not guilty” to the charges.
Prosecuting counsel, Onyeka Ekweozor, thereafter asked the court to fix a date for “commencement of trial”, and asked that they be remanded in EFCC custody.
“The defendants have separate charges before a Federal High Court pending arraignment, and remanding them in prison custody will make it difficult for the prosecution to arraign them,” he said.

Counsel for the first defendant, A. Ashat, in his oral bail application urged the court to grant his client bail, arguing that he will not jump bail.

According to reports, members of the group believed to be from Niger Republic are in possession of assorted weapons, preaching ISLAMIC teachings, forcefully collecting alms (zakat) and flogging defaulters.

They are going from one community to another,” the witness said.

Popular Italian filmmaker Bernardo Bertolucci is dead

Bernardo Bertolucci
Bernardo Bertolucci, the Italian filmmaker whose sensual and visually stylistic movies ranged from intense chamber dramas to panoramic historical epics, died on Monday at his home in Rome. He was 77.

His death was confirmed by his wife, Clare Peploe, in a statement that did not specify the cause.

Mr. Bertolucci’s early work reflected the revolutionary spirit of the 1960s and ’70s, in particular the shifting social and sexual mores of the times. While several of his films delved into the traumas of his country’s recent past, he fashioned himself as a global auteur.

Coming of age as the Italian neorealist movement was on the wane, he drew inspiration from the French New Wave and routinely worked across borders and with international casts.

Many of Mr. Bertolucci’s films were warmly embraced by Hollywood. “The Last Emperor” (1987), a lavish biopic of Pu Yi, who became the emperor of China at the age of 3, won all nine Academy Awards for which it was nominated, including best picture and best director.

But Mr. Bertolucci’s best-known — and most controversial — film came earlier in his career: “Last Tango in Paris” (1972), an explicit depiction of the intense sexual relationship between a middle-aged American widower and a young Frenchwoman (played by Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider). A worldwide sensation and instant lightning rod, the film was lauded by some for pushing the boundaries of sexual representation, and denounced by others as misogynistic or pornographic.

“Last Tango” received an X rating, landed on the covers of Time and Newsweek, and earned $36 million at the United States box office alone. In Italy, the film was the subject of a protracted obscenity trial. In 1976, the Italian Supreme Court ordered all copies destroyed and handed Mr. Bertolucci a four-month suspended sentence.

Bernardo Bertolucci was born on March 16, 1941, in Parma, Italy, into an affluent, artistically inclined family. His father, Attilio, was a renowned poet and occasional film critic; his mother, Ninetta, taught literature. As a teenager, after the family had moved to Rome, he started making short films with a borrowed 16-millimeter camera.

At age 20, Mr. Bertolucci dropped out of the University of Rome when the opportunity arose to assist a neighbor and family friend, Pier Paolo Pasolini, on the set of Mr. Pasolini’s first feature, “Accattone” (1961).

Despite early success as a poet — a collection of his poetry won the prestigious Viareggio Prize in 1962 — Mr. Bertolucci chose to devote himself to cinema. Expanded from a story treatment by Mr. Pasolini, his directing debut, “The Grim Reaper,” about the murder of a prostitute in a Roman park, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 1962.

If his first feature carried inevitable shades of Pasolini, Mr. Bertolucci came into his own with his second, “Before the Revolution” (1964). Loosely based on the Stendhal novel “The Charterhouse of Parma,” it describes the struggle of a young man torn between his bourgeois background and his radical aspirations.

For Mr. Bertolucci, the character’s conflict mirrored his own. “I was a Marxist with all the love, all the passion, and all the despair one can expect from a bourgeois who chooses Marxism,” he said in a 1965 interview with the magazine Cahiers du Cinéma.

“Before the Revolution” anticipated Mr. Bertolucci’s interest in exploring the intersections of the personal and the political, while also establishing his knack for inscribing autobiographical references in films adapted from literary sources. While the Italian reviews were mostly negative, the film was championed by French critics, who identified Mr. Bertolucci as a fellow traveler of the French New Wave.

The love was mutual. Mr. Bertolucci, who spent a month in Paris attending screenings at the Cinémathèque Française as a high school graduation gift, insisted on doing early interviews in French, which he called “the language of cinema.”

Learning From Godard
Even more than Mr. Pasolini, Jean-Luc Godard was an important early influence. Mr. Godard looms large over Mr. Bertolucci’s third, and most experimental, feature, “Partner” (1968), a reworking of Dostoevsky’s “Double,” in which a young man encounters his revolutionary doppelgänger.

In what he described as a pivotal moment in his creative life, Mr. Bertolucci began Freudian analysis in 1969. He spoke often and openly about the process, describing himself in a 1977 interview with The Washington Post as “a repressed person” who “can express my energy, my libido, my aggression, only in my work.”

Mikel Obi Russian partner Olga Diyachenko writes about Nigerian women

Olga Diyachenko
Olga Diyachenko, the Russian  partner of Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi, who is currently in Nigeria with her family took to Instagram to write about Nigerian women.

In the candid post, Olga praised Nigerian women for having so much grace, charisma and not a shred of insecurity.

Olga Diyachenko Wrote

Read her post below.
Nigeria, what a surprise you've turned out be. ?? But, if I’m to say what impressed me most, it’s The Women. So much; grace, charisma and not a shred of insecurity. Nigerian women walk swaying their beautiful hips with their backs impeccably straight, heads held high, knowing their worth. Their attitude is strong, yet very sensual, regardless whether it’s a wealthy woman walking through a 5 star hotel or a young girl crossing the road at 7 AM rushing to work. Although may I say, Nigerian women do not rush, nor do they fidget, they simply glide.
The way Nigerian women preserve their culture and traditions is admirable. They don’t chase international designers or dress according to Vogue, they wear beautiful traditional dresses, dance the traditional dances and do it all with pride!
I hope Ava and Mia will inherit the calmness, sense of pride, posture and self worth that I’ve witnessed Nigerian women posses with such ease. Nigerian Women hat off to you

President Buhari vows to ensure corrupt leaders end up in jail

President Buhari has stated corrupt leaders that have stolen the wealth of the Nation will not escape going to jail. President Buhari said this today when he received a delegation of APC leaders from Benue state in the presidential villa, Abuja.
A statement from his media aide, Femi Adesina, quotes President Buhari saying that the misappropriations of funds meant for the development of the people is unjust and unfair to workers.
“I honestly don’t know how people sleep when workers have not been paid. The workers have to pay rent, buy food, send their children to school and they have healthcare to take care of. I assure you that my main interest is all Nigerians in all parts of the country. Therefore, if anybody who tries to create any impression that I prefer any group across ethnicity or religion let him dare me by being caught red handed stealing public funds.  I will deal with him’’ he said
President Buhari told the party leaders that the farmes and herdsmen clashes witnessed in Benue, Zamfara and Taraba, are being carried out by “ungodly’’ people who had no religious or ethnic inclinations.
“We know about herders. The ones we knew carried sticks, and sometimes cutlasses to cut foliage for their cattle. We now have people who carry AK 47s and pretend they are herdsmen. We are working hard to secure our borders. We are going to see how the old cattle routes can be opened. We will control movement. Please beg our people to be patient,’’ he said
The President pointed out that security personnel were already uncovering the network of the killers and arresting them.

Comedian Francis Agoda aka I Go Dye has once again taken to social media to tackle the Buhari-led administration. In an open letter to President Buhari, I Go Dye asked President Buhari what his government has done with all the recovered Abacha loot and why the government had to share some of the recovered loot to the poor when such money can be used to rehabilitate hospitals so he, Buhari, would have no need going abroad for treatment. On the fight against corruption, the comedian wondered why those who are with President Buhari are seen as saints.

                                                         LETTER TO YOU MR PRESIDENTS
Read what he wrote below Your Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari As madact Ambassador on make A Difference Against Corruption Today, it has expanded my passion to speak. It saddens my heart that after 58 years all sectors of our social and economic lives has been plunged in failure.

Over the years, millions of graduates continue to wade through trying times, while youths with creative artistry, artisans and our young women have been denied the true values of nationhood, self esteem has been destroyed, many weep and sleep on a daily basis without a meal Sir, The funds recovered from looters in the past fews years of your government is 739 billion Naira, Abacha recovered returned loot is 322,000,000 dollars equivalent of 112billion naira Totalling 851 billion naira. why was the Abacha returned loots shared? Who are the beneficiaries?

Why wasn't the returned and recovered loots used to finance some of the basic social problems like electricity, repairing our refineries and creating jobs for our youths, build a world class hospital that can reduce the travelling expenses of Nigerians travelling abroad for medical treatment? Sir, if our hospitals were well equipped, you won't be involved in foreign trips for medical check ups.

When you eventual leave office, which hospital would be standard enough to offer you this services and to other Nigerians? Who are the looters that returned the said amount ? How come they are not facing criminal charges or being jailed? How come politicians alleged with 232 billion naira cases of corruption are working for your re-election? Is it Only those that are with you, that are the presumed saints? Your Excellency, our budgets for the last 3 years of your government 2016 (6.07 trillion),2017 (7.298trillion, )2018 ( 9.12 trillion)

Total 22.488 trillion naira, yet we do not have access to ordinary clean water, with escalated hunger in the land. In 2015, Nigerian was ranked 3rd among the poorest nations index but today in 2018, Nigeria is now ranked number number 1 people living in poverty in world overtaking India .That is why Nigerians are complaining.
